VIVIAN RICHARD celebrated his 21st Birthday on Saturday, 5th of December 09. Anderson gave the introduction and John Baptist raised the superb toast. Richie says that it was a special Birthday for him because of the commpanions which he shares with his Jesuit friends.

“Kannadada maatu chenna Kannadada Nela chenna Kannadigara manasu chinna..” goes a famous Kannada song. This was our experience as we ventured on a frolicking and exuberant culture tour of historical places in Karnataka. Our first visit was to Hassan the culturally enriched place of Karnataka. Belur, Shravanabelagola, the statue of Gommateshwara, at Sharvanabelagola left us speechless. The Monolithic statue was mindbogling. In Bangalore the places like Lalbagh, Vidhansoudha, Vishveshwariah museum Bannaderkatha Nation Park were other highlights of our Cultural tour.

Community Days.

Community Days (07-09/11/2009) are the days to cherish and relish each others companionship in every community. They are the days when we get to deepen our love and care for each other. During these days we look beyond, more than each member in the community appears to be. Thus, they are the days of God’s blessings and graces.

Here too in Asha Kiran, Community days were so good, strengthening and fortifying the bond we have with each other as ‘Friends in the Lord’. We had lots of fun and laughter,games and merry making. Of course not forgetting God who is the corner stone or pillar of the community in Prayers and the Eucharist.

Village Exposure:- Jyothinagar

Village Exposure!!!

It was a very enriching experience for all of us to be one with the poor people of Jyothinagar village for about five days from 1st till 5th Nov. We were house in the convent by the sisters who run the school. Till noon we worked in the campus cleaning,cutting,building wall,burning,etc. During the day we were with the children in the school. Some of us taught them songs, games and many other things. In the evening after playing with the children we would visit the houses along with the children. The people gladly accepted us and treated us kindly. They would share so many things including their problems in family etc. On the last day we conducted a short cultural program for all the children of the village.

It was a great thing for our community as Fr Francis Serrao SJ made his official visit. It was a time of grace and great blessings. His stay in the community culminated in the community get together before the altar of the Lord. At the same time it was the birthday of our beadle Sch Ronald Xalxo. So the celebration was doubled beyond expectations.

Dilan’s Birthday

This was a great day for Sch Dilan. He said that it was the busiest birthday ever, because he had to finished his works etc. The Eucharist was specially offered for the intentions of Dilan and the Liturgy was well prepared. Everyone got to share so many things about Dilan. At the end Dilan really felt happy and thanked the community for the love and affection given to him.

Running From A Jumping Bus!!!!!

17th September. Our Friend Sch Basil Sanga SJ celebrates his birthday. He is so happy to have his birthday celebrated and prayed for. The Eucharistic celebration was well organized. Sch Ronald gave a very beautiful introduction. Special prayers were offered.In the evening we had a shared prayer where everyone expressed their thoughts, feelings and sentiments toward Basil. At the end Basil made a prayer and expressed that his feelings are overwhelmed, and that he’s deeply humbled by the sharing.Then we had a community meal and the recreation. During the meal, Sch Ranjit raised the toast for Basil. At one part he wanted to say that Basil was good in jumping even from a running bus but said “So, you see Basil is good in running from a jumping bus!” This made everyone burst out in laughter.

It’s the birthday of our Mother Mary… It’s a much awaited day. Everyone was filled with joy as they celebrate the day. Early morning some are cutting sugar canes while some getting ready for the Liturgy… The Eucharistic celebration was very solemn with great love and devotion for our heavenly Mother. Fr Stanny our superior gave a beautiful homily on our Mother.

After breakfast you can see some of us gather near the coconut tree enjoying the sugarcane. Then comes another part which is also much enjoyable which is the Family or fellowship meal. Eating in leaves with variety of items- all pure Veg.

It’s rather unfortunate for the Mangalore Scholastics as this time they could not go to their homes owing to the on going Second Terminal examinations. Nevertheless everyone enjoyed the day and increased in Love and Devotion to Mother Mary.
